4) Do I need to come fasting?
No. There is no need to come fasting.

5) If I am a woman, can the medicals be done at the time of my menses?
It is preferable to avoid, as the result of the urine examination may be tainted due to contamination by the menstrual blood.

6) What if I am pregnant?
a) No additional tests are required. However as X-ray chest is a mandatory requirement for all clients 11 years of age and above, a double wrap around lead-shield will be provided for the abdomen (for protection against radiation risk for the foetus).
b) A 'Client Declaration Form' for consent for X-ray chest needs to be signed prior to using the X-ray examination.
c) You may choose NOT to do the X-ray (especially if you are in the 1st trimester of pregnancy), in which case an 'X-ray deferral letter' will be issued to you.
d) The medicals will be uploaded, but cannot be completed and submitted until the X-ray chest is completed.
e) The timing of getting the X-ray chest is entirely up to the discretion of the applicant.

7) What should I expect during the 'medicals'?
a) You will need to first report at the front desk at the appointed date and time with the relevant papers (mentioned above).
b) After the first I.D. proof verification, you will need to make the billing (either by cash or credit card) as per the rates fixed by the Canadian High Commission, New Delhi.
c) Please note: Urine sample has to be collected 'fresh' in the clinic premises. (No lab tests are required for clients less than 5 years of age).
d) At the time of X-ray chest, you will need to disrobe upper half (in privacy), including removal of any metallic objects on chest area. A chaperone will always be provided to all female applicants.

Kindly cooperate with the X-ray technician and adhere to the instructions provided by him to obtain a high quality X-ray chest.

e) At the time of medical examination, kindly cooperate with the medical doctor by answering all questions honestly and accurately. A written consent (stating all queries have been answered fully and a 'No Objection' to the release of information to Canadian health authorities) has to be signed.
f) At the time of physical examination, the clients will need to disrobe outer clothing in privacy. A nurse/ chaperone will invariably be present for all female clients throughout the medical examination. One parent /guardian will be asked to be present at the time of examination of minor. All female clients above age of 40 years require breast examination.
g) The doctor is NOT obliged to share any medical information after the completion of medical examination. However, if any potentially serious disorder is identified, the client will be advised accordingly. The doctor is NOT obliged to prescribe any drugs for any newly identified medical condition. Instead, the client will be advised to seek medical opinion from his/her primary care physician.
h) If client has pre-existing disorders like diabetes and hypertension, additional mandatory tests will need to be added to the standard lab tests (at an extra cost to the applicant).
i) In case of any abnormality discovered in the lab tests subsequently, the client may be contacted to visit the clinic again for additional / repeat tests (This may add to extra cost).

The whole medicals process will usually take approximately 2-3 hours to complete at the clinic.

8) What happens after the medicals?
a) All clients will be issued signed and dated client IME form / e-medical Information Sheet, for upfront cases, before leaving the clinic.
b) Please ensure safe keeping of the above forms as duplicate copies cannot be issued. (Hence it is advisable to keep additional photocopies of the same).
c) If initial lab results are abnormal, or based on pre-existing chronic disorders, additional mandatory tests (as laid out in the medical guidelines) may be requested. The cost of the additional tests will have to be borne by the applicant.
d) The medicals in most cases will be uploaded to the e-medical which is strictly confidential.
e) In some instances however (where there is no access to the e-medical), the medicals will be sent by courier to the Canadian High Commission, New Delhi).
f) Depending on the final medical assessment, 'furtherance' may be requested by the regional medical officer, New Delhi, which may include specialist's consultation and/or additional lab tests, where the clinic will coordinate appointment with specialists (who may or may not be available at the clinic). All expenses for the additional consultation/tests have to be borne by the client. (A prior appointment at the clinic for the 'furtherance' is mandatory).
