Overview

Ruby Hall Clinic is the first centre in India to start with laparoscopic surgery for obesity and related diseases.
Obesity is the root of multiple diseases that affect a person. Despite that obesity is not considered as a serious health issue, as many do not accept the need to reduce their weight and focus on fitness. This ignorance has led to obesity being one of the major health challenges across the world. Obesity is a silent killer.
India is 3rd in terms of Obese populous in the world along with being the world’s diabetic capital. Although bariatric surgery is the only method that leads to sustained weight loss in the morbidly obese, less than 1% of the eligible population is actually using the benefits of surgery.
Ruby Hall Clinic has state-of-the-art equipment as well as an internationally reputed team of surgeons. The centre has successfully completed the Bariatric operation of 278kg patient.

Services
It is a non-surgical procedure for weight reduction. At Ruby Hall, we proceed with this surgery using a soft-silicone balloon filled with saline is placed inside of the stomach. This balloon limits the food intake of the patient causing a reduction in overeating. Since the appetite of a patient is greatly reduced a significant weight loss takes place.
Limitations:
- The balloon has to be removed after six months, otherwise, there is a risk of weight bouncing back
There are some instances when an obese person is unable to reduce weight by conventional means such as dieting, exercise and weight training due to the nature of the body. In these kinds of situations, there are surgical ways to reduce weight. One surgical method to remove excess fat from the body is Sleeve Gastrectomy. In this process, the surgeon removes the large portion of the stomach along the great curvature creating a sleeve or tube-like structure.
At Ruby Hall Clinic, we prefer ‘Laparoscopy’ to conduct Sleeve Gastrectomy. In this surgical procedure, small incisions are made in the abdomen of the patient and long instruments are placed through these incisions. The overall surgery takes fifty minutes where two-thirds of the stomach is removed.
The after-effects of the surgery greatly affect the appetite of a patient. Due to the reduction of stomach size, patients eat less that helps them in weight reduction.
Advantages of Lap Sleeve Gastrectomy:
- 50-60% weight reduction after first two years of surgery
- Issues like Diabetes, Hyper-tension, High Blood Pressure, Asthma etc are resolved
- Reduction risk of death by 89%
Also known as Roux-en-y Gastric Bypass (RYGB). This surgery divides the stomach into a small upper pouch and a large lower ‘remnant’ pouch. Apart from that, the intestine is readjusted to connect both the sections.
This method is usually performed laparoscopically by inserting a laparoscope through abdominal incisions. At the end of the laparoscope, a small video camera is attached so as to provide the surgeon with a magnified view of internal organs on a monitor.
In this process, the surgeon utilises 5% of the stomach area to create a small pouch. The remaining area of stomach continues to produce digestive juices along with pancreas, gallbladder and duodenum. The small Gastric Pouch reduces patient appetite and enables them to eat less.
Advantages:
- The altered physiological and physical response to food, which allows a patient to eat less
One Anastomosis Gastric Bypass is popularly known as Mini Gastric Bypass where a small pouch of the stomach created just after oesophagus. The second part of the small intestine called jejunum compared to Roux-en-y bypass that has two anastomoses.
Advantages of Lap One Anastomosis Gastric Bypass:
- Reversible procedure
- Reduction of 60-70% of overall weight
- Issues like Diabetes, Hyper-tension, High Blood Pressure, Asthma etc are resolved
